I guess temp files are a part of scanning even if you aren't decompressing something? Correct... Virtually all applications create some form of temporary files as part their normal operation. Beyond that many anti-virus program now scan inside compressed executables by default.

If you have 4 to 8MB and a permanent swap file of 10 or 12 MB and the temp var is valid you should not have any problems.
